LD10 Statements on Orsted’s Withdrawal from Offshore Wind Project
Senator Jim Holzapfel and Assemblymen Greg McGuckin and John Catalano issued the following statements demanding that any money given to Orsted be returned and reinvested in education after the foreign wind developer announced they were cancelling their offshore wind projects in New Jersey. Orsted announced in October that they were putting up a $100 million guarantee to build the first offshore wind farm by 2025.

“Our delegation in the Tenth District warned that Governor Murphy’s misplaced energy priorities were rushed and ill-conceived. We argued that real issues like school funding needed to be addressed before blindly handing out subsidies to a foreign entity with glaring financial problems,” said Sen. Holzapfel. “Schools in areas like Toms River and Brick have experienced critical funding cuts over the last few years. The $100 million guarantee from Orsted would be better spent making our New Jersey schools whole again.”
Statement from Senator Durr on Orsted Withdrawing from Offshore Wind Project
Senator Ed Durr (R-3) issued the following statement criticizing the Murphy administration for the rushed adoption of offshore wind after the foreign wind developer, Orsted, announced they were terminating their projects along the New Jersey Shore.

“Orsted’s announcement is a slap in the face to New Jersey taxpayers. Republicans warned about giving handouts to a foreign company while ratepayers were underwater paying for higher electric bills. Governor Murphy’s reckless energy policies hurt New Jersey families. His obsession with offshore wind has cost New Jersey jobs, raised energy bills for homeowners and renters, and put our coastline in further jeopardy.

“Tonight’s announcement by Ørsted is not a surprise to those who have been relentless in questioning the Governor’s overzealous “green” energy mandates.
For those of us who simply asked reasonable questions about the long-term, practicable and financial viability of the proposed offshore projects, this is an “I told you so” moment. Continue Reading…

“I was always extremely concerned about what this project meant to our precious marine life, to our commercial fishing industry, to our recreational fishing industry, and what it also meant to our tourism industry,” said Testa (R-1). “I also always questioned whether this was a financially feasible deal. 9.3 million New Jerseyans deserve a complete and total audit to determine how much the state has already invested in the deal. Ørsted is New Jersey’s Solyndra.” Continue Reading…

“Republicans stated for months that Orsted’s offshore wind project was unsustainable and would inevitably fail. Orsted’s decision today confirms that Republicans were right when we said this was too much, too fast, and too costly. Their financial challenges were glaringly obvious, yet Democrats ignored the warning signs to rush through Governor Murphy’s extreme energy master plan without any due diligence. This is just another example of how Governor Murphy’s outrageous energy master plan is coming back to hurt New Jersey taxpayers.

“It is a privilege to be recognized by the commission for my legislative efforts to ensure the proper funding of cancer research in New Jersey,” said Singer (R-30). “It is my hope that the additional funding and support will allow researchers to investigate new cancer treatments and new ways of preventing this insidious disease that has affected the lives of millions of people.”
District 10 Legislators: Murphy Should Unequivocally Support Lowering the Cost of Tolls
Senator Jim Holzapfel and Assemblymen Greg McGuckin and John Catalano issued the following joint statement after Governor Murphy announced that he was vetoing the New Jersey Turnpike Authority’s proposed toll increases.

“While we support Governor Murphy vetoing unnecessary toll increases the timing of his decision could not be more political. In fact, Governor Murphy did nothing to stop the last three toll increases. New Jerseyans need certainty that this veto isn’t a ploy to delay toll increases until after the election when it is politically convenient for Democrats. We are calling on Governor Murphy to make a commitment to New Jerseyans that tolls will not be increased in the coming year. Republicans will continue standing up for New Jersey families and fighting for legislation that will lower the cost of tolls for commuters.”
10th District Legislators Blast Murphy Over Regressive Toll Tax Increases
Senator Jim Holzapfel and Assemblymen Greg McGuckin and John Catalano blasted the Murphy administration after the New Jersey Turnpike Authority approved a $2.6 billion budget that calls for a 3% toll tax increase.

“Governor Murphy often proclaims that he is a progressive who only taxes the rich, but he’s slamming blue collar workers with regressive toll increases year after year,” said Sen. Holzapfel. “New Jerseyans who use these roads to get to and from work are having more of their hard-earned money stripped away by these unnecessary tax increases. This is all the more reason for the Legislature to pass my bill to reduce the cost of tolls in New Jersey.”
Bucco & O’Scanlon Slam Murphy For Avoiding Real Issues Like the Affordability Crisis
Senate Republican Leader Anthony M. Bucco and Senate Republican Budget Officer Declan O’Scanlon slammed Governor Murphy for avoiding real issues like the affordability crisis in New Jersey after a new report ranked New Jersey as the worst state on the 2024 State Business Tax Climate Index.

“Governor Murphy’s failed progressive priorities have hampered New Jerseyans with some of the highest tax burdens in the country. It is indefensible that Governor Murphy and Trenton Democrats continue to avoid the real issues while everyday New Jerseyans suffer under the crushing weight of the cost-of-living increases created by those very progressive policies they support,” said Bucco (R-25). “Democrats in Trenton have moved in lockstep with Governor Murphy to approve his extreme progressive wish list while squandering billions of dollars that could have been used to lowered taxes. Now, only when it is politically convenient will Democrats beg Governor Murphy to stop toll tax increases after rejecting Republican budget proposals that would have stopped this.”
Corrado: Problems With Bail Reform Need to Be Addressed to Protect New Jerseyans and Retain Law Enforcement Personnel

“We hear from members of Law Enforcement and angered citizens nearly every day that bail reform simply isn’t working. New Jerseyans feel that their quality of life is on the decline because of rising crime and car thefts. These problems need to be addressed by the Legislature immediately to protect the lives of all New Jerseyans and to retain the hardworking police officers who put their lives on the line every day,” said Corrado (R-40). “Criminals are often let off the hook with nothing more than a slap on the wrist because of bail reform. Legislative polices have, in many cases, handcuffed our amazing men and women in Law Enforcement and prevented Judges from doing their job. The Senate should return to Trenton to make bail reform a top legislative priority to keep our streets and neighborhoods safe.”
